Being on twitter and promoting my website into 140 characters influenced me to put a lot of hashtags to attract foodies sharing similar interest as me and connecting with my food recipes well.
Being already a twitter user for my previous assignment helped me to choose relevant hashtags. The hashtags that I used the most and related to my topic were #homemade, #yummy, #foodexperience, #healthy, #healthier, #foodies, #eat, #Mauritianfood, #food, #Indianfood, #lovemyplate, #Boondi, #foodlove, #Rasgullas, #recipes, among others. I made the hashtags according to the pictures I tweeted to relate it to my specific content and attract the different kinds of foodies on twitter. I also retweeted a few posts.
But, I mostly tweeted my blog pictures and included my blog’s link to direct the users to my site. My first tweet was a standard one which was already available on twitter and I just needed to post it. My second tweet concentrated on my blog post on Rasgullas. Then, I continued to post in a direct but effective way and slowly gained around 16 followers in a short period of time.
The hashtags helped me to find followers and as soon as I put the hashtags and had my second tweet, I got an active user who liked my tweet. I followed the user in response to the like. I also followed other users who related to my topic. I also posted many pictures with hashtags to expand my network and gain more followers.
The more I tweeted, the more people were directed to my posts and liked and retweeted my tweets. There was also a message that I received. But, it did not relate to my tweet or any other details. The private message concerned rather the description of someone irrelevant to my topic or tweets.
I had a good experience with twitter this week as I am not a new user of twitter and knew how twitter functions with limited characters. Though twitter is limited in characters, it is quick and direct in reaching a wide audience. The advantage of twitter is surely its hashtags’ element which reach people quickly. They are willing to see the posts knowing there are limited characters thus encouraging more viewers. The more they see the tweets, they more retweet, like, follow and build a network with trust. This can allow them in the future to read my posts more willingly and provide feedback.
